Discharges of Radioactive Substances
Nuclear sector
Since 1986, OSPAR has collected and published annualy reports on radioactive substances from nuclear installations.Today these reports covers nuclear power stations, nuclear fuel reprocessing plants, nuclear fuel fabrication and enrichment plants, nuclear research and development facilities and discharges from decommissioning and the treatment/recovery of old radioactive waste. The reprocessing plants in La Hague and Sellafield contribute to approximately 78 % of the overall discharges.
Non-Nuclear
OSPAR started in 2006 to collect annualy data on discharges from the non-nuclear sector (including offshore oil and gas, medical and research institutions). No reports are available yet.
