EcApRHA’s Production of phytoplankton workshop - Food Web group

The EcApRHA Food webs Work Package held its workshop from 28 to 29 April 2016 at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) in Paris, France. The workshop focused on work progress and data needs within this indicator development.

Ten experts attended the workshop from France (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, University of Caen, University of Lille), Netherlands (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research) and UK (Centre for Environmental, Fisheries and Aquaculture).

Main outcomes of the workshop:

  • Collated data for more case studies covering more areas from OSPAR regions
  • Progress update of indicator and future work plans (in accordance with the OSPAR 2017 Intermediate Assessment);
  • A first deliverable was submitted for discussion within the group. This deliverable described existing methodologies and scenarios for a future common measuring approach;
  • A second deliverable is in progress considering the challenging definition of assessment values based on different case studies;
  • EcApRHA WP3 activities related to phytoplankton production, deliverables and main milestones were discussed and agreed.
