The ocean is not only the cradle of life, it holds the keys to an equitable and sustainable future.

2024 will mark the fourth year of implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). Under the leadership of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, the Ocean Decade has already galvanised thousands of partners around the world to start delivering the science we need for the ocean we want.

To mark the occasion, OSPAR, HELCOM, UNEP MAP, and the Black Sea Commission jointly held an event the upcoming Ocean Decade Conference, in Barcelona on 12 April. Introduced by the executive secretaries, the event highlighted the role of regional sea conventions in delivering the science we need for the ocean we want. Building on a theme of the conference, case studies were also presented by Early Career Ocean Professionals working in our organisations.
