| | This week OSPAR published its latest status report and assessment sheet on Marine Protected Areas (MPA). Although we publish updates every two years, this year's report also contributes to the findings of OSPAR's Quality Status Assessment 2023.
The findings show that OSPAR's network of North-East Atlantic Marine Protected Areas (MPA) now comprises 583 MPAs covering a surface area of 1.5 million km2 or 11% of the North-East Atlantic. This means that OSPAR has achieved Aichi Biodiversity target 11 of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.
