OSPAR's Quality Status Report 2023 Friday Ocean Findings Issue 40
This week I am using OSPAR’s Friday Ocean Findings to say a very big thank you to colleagues from across OSPAR’s 16 Contracting Parties for their incredible efforts in helping to deliver OSPAR’s Quality Status Report (QSR) 2023 which will be published on 13 September. This once in a decade report provides the most authoritative and comprehensive assessment of the environmental status of the North-East Atlantic and is the result of the combined efforts of over 400 experts, scientists, data analysts and policy colleagues. The QSR has also been supported by contributions from OSPAR observers from industry, environmental non-governmental organisations and international partner organisations. Comprising a synthesis report, 15 thematic assessments, 37 indicator assessments, 11 pilot assessments and 65 other assessments the QSR is the result of the hard work, dedication and expertise of these colleagues and their determination to produce the best possible evidence to inform decisions on how to improve the status of the North-East Atlantic. Without their personal commitment and willingness to cooperate, delivering the QSR would not have been possible. So, to all of you that have been involved – whether as an expert, expert group lead, co-convenor, chair or in whatever capacity – a huge thank you for your contribution.

ICES Annual Science Conference

13 September: OSPAR’s Quality Status Report: delivering your science to policy makers

This will be the first time that the findings of OSPAR's 2023 Quality Status Report will be presented in public.

The aim of the session is to highlight the results of this once in a decade assessment and showcase the role of experts and scientists and how their work is used to support policy. We hope to hear from the audience how best to engage with the ICES scientific community and improve the connections between scientists and policy makers in OSPAR.
