Marine Strategy Framework Directive 7th meeting of the Technical Group on Marine Data

10 December 2018

OSPAR's data assistant, Ellie Dening, attended Marine Strategy Framework Directive 7th meeting of the Technical Group on Marine Data at the European Environment Agency, Copenhagen in December.

The meeting discussed the pros and cons on the different options of joining the OSPAR catalogue with the European geoportal; not only whether this will be a beneficial task but also how the catalogues should be joined. Either by Regional Sea Conventions (RSC) defining a filter expression to extract metadata for data sets so the harvesting will be managed by each member state, or by agreeing on a metadata element to identify the member state so the harvesting is managed by OSPAR (or relevant RSC) on behalf of member state.

Follow up tasks were delegated, including the decision on how to connect the OSPAR catalogue with the European geoportal, which has fallen to member states to decide the next steps.
