OSPAR attends MEDCIS project meeting in Athens

9 May 2018

Greece is a lovely place to visit in early spring and as a member of the MEDCIS project Advisory Board, Deputy Secretary Jo Foden was invited to Athens to participate in the project’s annual General Assembly.

The purpose of the project is to address the implementation of the second cycle of the the EU's Marine Strategy Framework Directive; achieving coherence, coordinated and consistent updates of the determinations of good environmental status (GES), initial assessments and environmental targets. Important work is underway on standard and coherent data generation, management and access, improved joint monitoring programs, and developing tools and mechanisms to describe and assess progress in the implementation of the programme of measures. This ambitious project is making excellent progress and it was a privilege to be able to share the OSPAR perspective and to exchange knowledge and experience.
