OSPAR's North Sea Network meets in Lisbon

The meeting of the North Sea Network of Investigators and Prosecutors (NSN) was held in Lisbon at the kind invitation of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). The meeting was attended by Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and EMSA. It focused on the follow up on the recommendations from the successful ‘Seminar on Maritime Environmental Crimes – Violations of MARPOL Annexes’. Participants presented case studies of successful prosecutions and discussed emerging issues of paraffin oil as well as nitrogen and sulphur oxide emissions. EMSA presented their new RULECHECK portal, Automated Behaviour Monitoring Tools and developments of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Services.

NSN was set up in 2002 to help enforce international regulations preventing pollution from ships in the North Sea. NSN is associated with the OSPAR Commission and cooperates with the Bonn Agreement.
