Protection of Species and Habitats meeting 2019

9 December 2019

OSPAR is taking collective actions to protect species and habitats that are threatened and/or declining. The meeting in December discussed ways to make this work more effective, as well as considering several new scoping studies prepared through earlier actions. The scoping studies brought together information on seamounts as biodiversity hot spots in the deep sea, and on the threats affecting sea turtles in the OSPAR maritime area. The information brings together information not previously considered in OSPAR and will inform next steps in the work to protect these features.

The meeting also considered new proposals for adding habitats to the OSPAR List and proposals for further protective measures for features already on the list.
