Protection of Species and Habitats meeting 2020

8 December 2020

The annual meeting of Intersessional Correspondence Group on the implementation follow up of measures for the protection and conservation of species and habitats (ICG-POSH) took place as an online meeting from 30 November to 3 December 2020.

New ideas for tasks to be completed under the incoming 10-year period were discussed for the first time, with interesting new emerging topics.

The meeting welcomed delivery of a new status assessment on European oysters and oyster beds as well as on thick-billed murre. The status assessments will be finalised for submission to BDC 2021 and will in a next step inform further action and measures to be taken at OSPAR.

Contracting Parties to OSPAR work collectively on implementing conservation actions for the species and habitats in decline or under threat. The meeting discussed approaches for ensuring effective delivery of the work that would focus in on the most strategically relevant pressures emerging from human activities.
