Sustainable Development Goals in the Arctic - Local and Global Perspectives

13 December 2017

The Executive Secretary attended the International High-Level Conference on “Sustainable Development Goals in the Arctic - Local and Global Perspectives”, held in Copenhagen on the 1st of December. The main objective of the meeting was to bring in global, local, public and private sector representatives to reflect on ways to strengthen sustainable economic development and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arctic by 2030. UN SDGs, in particular Goal 14, are of relevance to the scope and mandate of OSPAR, because as a Regional Sea Convention OSPAR plays an important role in ocean governance and the protection of the North-East Atlantic including OSPAR Region I (Arctic Waters) and also in supporting the delivery of the biodiversity targets.
