What is the issue?
Action 30 aimed to ensure the regional coordination on the implementation of EU Directive 2000/59/EC in relation to MARPOL Annex V ship-generated waste and Action 31 was to ensure OSPAR contributed to the revision of this directive and to see how the RAP ML and the revised PRF overlapped.
What has OSPAR Done?
Actions 30 and 31 were addressed together. OSPAR fed into the process to revise and produce the new Port Reception Facilities Directive (EU) 2019/833 i through participation in the European Sustainable Shipping Forum PRF sub group. OSPAR provided evidence on the occurrence and impacts of litter items from sea-based sources in the Northeast- Atlantic. A dedicated meeting was held in 2018 following the publication of the European Commission proposal to discuss overlap between the RAP actions and the proposal.
