OSPAR's Working Group on Monitoring and on Trends and Effects of Substances in the Marine Environment

5 December 2015

OSPAR's Working Group on Monitoring and on Trends and Effects of Substances in the Marine Environment (MIME) met in Copenhagen in November. MIME maintains and develops effective regional coordinated monitoring and assessment. This includes development and implementation of indicators, targets and monitoring programmes associated with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (descriptors 5 and 8) and where possible assessment of progress towards the achievement of good environmental status.

At November's meeting MIME worked hard on addressing issues in contaminants data, in the ICES DOME database. ICES - the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea - is fully engaged in facilitating this work.

MIME also worked on developing its common indicators and continued to develop the CEMP rollover assessment of data which will become available in the OSPAR online web tool in 2016.
